Moussaka (Musaka)
Moussaka (Musaka)
Moussaka is a dish that is often on our tables and that I enjoy eating.
This versatile dish is a satisfying main course or a refreshing cold appetizer.
Its preparation requires minimal time yet the result is excellent.
Moussaka is a dish that you can eat for several days. For example, you can make it on Saturday morning and have lunch for the whole weekend.
Prep Time: 60 - 80 minutes
Level: Easy
Servings: 4 + people
Ingredients needed:
1 kg of potatoes
500 g of minced meat (beef/pork or combo)
1 onion
a little bit of oil
Season as desired
2 eggs
2 spoons of sour cream
some milk
Preparation:
Clean and finely chop the onion. Peel the potatoes and cut them into rings.
Put enough oil in the pan to cover the bottom, then add the chopped onion and sauté. When the onion turns brown, add the minced meat, and the spices and mix for about 10 minutes.
In a deep pan, arrange alternately a row of potatoes, a row of meat, and so on until the ingredients are used up. The last row should be potatoes.
Bake at 375F (200 degrees) for about an hour.
15 minutes before the end of baking, whip up a topping of eggs, cream, and milk and pour over the moussaka.
When the potatoes are golden brown, the dish is ready.
Cooking tip: When fully cooked, let the Moussaka rest for 15-20 minutes before serving.
